What is a Broken Finger?

A "Broken Finger" is a fracture of one of the bones in your fingers. There are 3 bones called phalanges in each finger and they are the more often injured, fractured or broken than any of the other bones in the hand.

Most broken fingers  and thumbs are caused by and injury at work or while playing sports like basketball,  football, boxing, and rugby.  Work place injuries are usually of the crushed type from dropping something on it or by getting it caught it moving machinery parts. You can break your finger from slamming it in a door too. Some broken fingers and thumbs are a result of repetitive strain actions that can cause stress fractures.

Finger and thumb bone fractures that are easy to identify will show visible signs of swelling, redness and look "out of place", crooked, "kinked" or deformed. The area around the broken bone will usually show discoloration and bruising. Any amount of pressure will be very painful and you will not be able to use your hand for much of anything. Even brushing your teeth may become an impossible task.

Less obvious bone breaks are small stress fractures that may not show any of the visible signs - only ache or be somewhat sore to  use.  An x-ray may be the only way to confirm a fractures.

Treating Broken Fingers:

If you visibly see that your finger is broken you will want to immobilize it with something rigid - a ruler or even a popsicle stick - wrap it with gauze or soft cotton fabric.

We suggest you see your doctor for his/her professional advise first. Depending on the type of fracture they may cast or tape your finger to help immobilize the bones. Reduce the initial pain and swelling with ice packs.

These safe waves of soothing FIR energy penetrate deep into the tissues of your fingers helping to heal broken finger bones faster by increasing the molecular activity of the cells.

The stimulation of the tiny capillaries and veins in your fingers and hands dilate the cells and allow fresh oxygenated blood containing vital nutrients to reach the over stress areas. Better circulation to the skin means better overall health of your hands.
