What is Foot Bursitis?

Bursitis is the term given to the inflammation of small sacs (called bursae) of synovial fluid.

These small sacs act like a cushion between two bones and allow tendons and ligaments to slide smoothly over the bones.

Inflammation of the bursa sacs can be caused by wear and tear, repetitive stresses, injuries, and just plain old age.

Patients often describe the ailment as "a burning sensations on the bottom of the foot".

Degrees of pain and swelling may vary depending on the severity.

Most often the bursitis will form at the underside of the ball of the foot, the bottom of the heel, and at the back of the heel, where the Achilles tendon runs over the heel bone.
