A ganglion cyst is a bump of joint fluid (synovial fluid) of
varying size that is quite firm to the touch. Cysts
are located on or around the wrist joints. Most often these
cysts (sometimes called a "bible bump") are harmless, but can
become sore if banged or bruised. If the ganglion cyst
is located at the joint, it can be painful and may become
inflamed from the flexing and bending of the joint.
Ganglion cysts are most often caused by over use of the
wrist and is often an ailment of gymnasts, tennis players,
golfers, weight lifters, guitar players, and even keyboardists
or typists. Ganglion cysts are most common in women between
the ages of 20-40 years. |
