Plantar Fasciitis is the inflammation of the plantar
fascia - a flat ligament that runs along the bottom of
your foot from the ball and cups up around your heel.
Repetitive stresses to the ligament from running, jumping
(basketball, volleyball, tennis) standing on hard surfaces with non
supportive shoes, flat feet and being overweight can cause
some or all of the ligament fibers to tear. Other
common foot conditions like flat feet, tight heel tendons,
high foot arches can contribute to plantar fascia injuries.
Tears in the ligament will show redness, swelling, heat
and can be very painful depending on the severity. Some
people report an intense sharp pain at the heel when they
get up in the morning or if they stand up after sitting for
longer periods. |
