Bunions

What is a Bunion?

A Bunion is a boney enlargement around the base of the big toe joint. Hallux valgus, another name for a Bunion, will deform the big toe, causing it to turn inwards towards the other toes.

In the earlier stages of the enlargement, the bursal sac surrounding the joint, may be swollen and tender. In the later stages, the lump will start to ossify (harden), meaning that the body has deposited more bone to help protect the joint. This in turn causes an increase in size of the boney lump.

Bunions are most often a result of other structural deformities of the tendon and ligaments in the foot and up the leg.

Genetics are thought to play a role in the condition, but it can develop from other injuries to the leg and/or foot.

      Treating Bunions:

We recommend you invest in some shoes that are roomy enough for your to joints, to reduce any possible pressure points on the big toe joint.

Be careful not to bang the joint, as your body could possibly want to self protect it and produce more calcification.

Prolotex™ Far Infrared Therapy Socks are effective in relieving the joint pain and inflammation, and will help to reduce further development of the boney enlargement.

In some severe cases where surgery is needed, FIR socks do help to speed up the healing of your operation and will ease your suffering.

Socks are washable... cool water, mild soap, rinse, hang dry.
